Paid plans and usage packs check out on Plans (`/en/subscription`). Features still lists the catalog. ## Where work happens The generator runs in the visitor's browser until they save. After email sign-in, Scanmelon stores destination, appearance, and hop URLs. You design in the browser, without an account. 2. **Choose color and style.** Set the module color and pick rounded, square, or dots. Keep contrast high against the background so scanners can read the code. 3. **Optional: logo in the center.** Upload a simple logo. Scanmelon keeps a light zone so the code stays scannable. 4. **Add the destination.** Put the URL (or other content) behind the code. Choose dynamic if you want to change the link later without reprinting. ## What you can encode Usually a website, menu, form, or payment link. Keep the URL short and check it before print. For flyers, packaging, or business cards, a dynamic QR code is useful: the print stays the same if the page later moves. ## Print tips Export at high resolution, leave a quiet zone around the code, and test with a phone camera. Dark modules on a light background scan better than the reverse. A logo in the center is fine if the mark stays small and simple. --- # What is a QR code? Canonical HTML: https://scanmelon.com/en/what-is-a-qr-code A QR code is a square pattern that a phone camera turns into a link, text, or other data in one scan. No extra app install is required on most smartphones. ## How a scan works The corners are finder patterns. The camera uses them for orientation and scale, even if the code is slightly skewed. The remaining modules carry the payload plus error correction: part of the code may be damaged or covered (for example by a logo) and still decode. ## What fits inside Web addresses are most common. You can also encode Wi-Fi details, a vCard, an email, or short text. More data means a denser grid. For print, a short stable URL is usually easier to scan than a long tracking link. ## Static or dynamic A static code contains the final destination in the pattern. A dynamic QR code first points at an address you control, so you can change the real page later without reprinting. Useful for print that outlasts a single campaign. ## Versus a static code A static code stores the full destination in the pattern. If the website moves, you reprint. A dynamic code points at an address you manage. Only that redirect changes; stickers, menus, and packaging stay valid. ## When to choose dynamic - Business cards, shop windows, or permanent wayfinding. - Seasonal menus, tickets, or landing pages that rotate. - Campaigns whose URL is not final at print time. A one-off flyer to a page that will never change can stay static. That is allowed as long as scanners still see enough of the pattern. Scanmelon keeps a light zone in the middle for that. ## Why a logo works QR codes include error correction. A small, calm icon in the center is fine. People recognize the brand before they scan, which helps on posters and packaging. ## File and size Upload PNG, JPG, SVG, or WebP, preferably under 2 MB. A simple pictogram or wordmark on a transparent background reads cleaner than a busy photo. Keep the logo smaller than the free zone: too large and the camera misses modules. ## Color and contrast Dark modules on a light background remain the safe choice. No name or phone is requested. No remarketing or profiling. Personal data is not sold. Legal bases include legitimate interest for hosting/security, answering email, cookieless Vercel Web Analytics, and legal obligation where the law requires keeping correspondence. Account processing (including scan-limit emails) and payment processing use contract performance. ## Cookies No tracking cookies or advertising cookies. Vercel Web Analytics is cookieless. The site sets `scanmelon-locale` for language and Supabase session cookies after sign-in. No cookie banner for those strictly functional cookies. ## Retention (summary) - Technical logs: as short as hosting allows for security and incidents (typically days to a few weeks unless an incident needs longer). - Email: until the request is handled, then up to two years unless law or a dispute requires longer. - QR design data: not held by Scanmelon; it exists in the browser session unless the visitor downloads a file. ## Rights GDPR rights apply (access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability where applicable, objection).
